Ruthie Davis Shoe Collection

Ruthie Davis is the name and creating amazing shoes is the game.. A couple of months ago, I heard a NYC radio personality talking about how sick the Ruthie Davis collection was. So of course me being a shoe lover I had to check out what all this fuss was about. And I'm so happy I did. Ruthie Davis is what the younger generation calls "Dope".. Her shoe collection is a bit pricey but if you have the funds, why not invest in a such a terrific creation!! Here are a few shoes from her 2012-2013 collection.

You can never go wrong with the colors black and white. So if your attending a formal event or just kicking it with the ladies for the night. These are a must!!

Three words to describe these shoes, "Summer in Miami".. Now imagine club hopping in Miami with these shoes on your feet.. Need I say more?

Being from New York City, I am a die hard NY Knicks fan. Why not represent the team I love!!

Studs, gems and straps! These shoes just makes me want to be bad! Pair them up with some straight leg jeans and a sexy top and your ready to go!!

Tan and teal.. What a great combination! Want to impress him on that first date, make sure you have a pair of Ruthie Davis's shoes on your feet..

Must see for men!!

I wanted to become a blogger just on women shoes alone, but after a night on the town I discovered that some men need some serious help with what to wear on their feet. While at the Hudson River Cafe in New York City on Friday, I noticed a young gentlemen that was not only loud and all over the place but his shoes were screaming for some serious attention. He wore a pair of brown shoes that were leaning to the side because the heels needed to be replaced and not only that but the brown in some areas had been worn out so they were now tan. Maybe it's just me, but I find a man with a great sense of style to be sexy. And when I say style, I mean well put together from head to toe. So for the gentlemen in the club, this post is for you..

Zappos.com have these Sperry Top-Sider Boat Oxford Boots available for $100. They are available in three colors, Dark Gray, Dark Tan (as shown above) and Dark Brown. Made with premium upper leather material, heel pull tab for easy off/on, lace up closure and a non-marking rubber sole. Men can certainly wear these well with a nice pull over sweater, a pair of jeans or even khakis.

So the lady in your life has invited you to attend a very upscale event with her. You have your suit ready but then you realize you have nothing to wear on your feet. Where do you go? What do you wear? Designer Kenneth Cole can certainly add that touch that is needed to help you put it all together. These tapered squared toe, all leather loafers have a metal bar across the upper section of the shoe, a unique flaxseed pillow in the arch that will help to mold to the shape of your feet, a soft sheepskin lining with a soft flexible rubber sole. Their name alone says it all, these "Stand Apart" Loafers are available at KennethCole.com for $198.

Oh the weather outside is frightful, but your boots should be delightful! As soon as I saw these boots, I knew they were a must have for any man that could afford them. Not only are they tough enough to endure the harsh winter, they are stylish as well. They are called the "Lace-Up Mad Boot" and they're made by Sorel. They are made with water resistant leather upper, contrast lace-up front and a molded rubber sole which provides maximum grip and traction. They can be found a Neiman Marcus for $190.

Men please be advise that women are looking at what you are wearing on your feet. And women before you let you man leave the house, please look him over from head to toe to make sure he is correct because after all he is a reflection of you....

History of the heel....

"I don't know who invented high heels, but all women owe him a lot!"
~Marilyn Monroe

Do you know how high heels first came to be? Well??  Many may not, so I decided to take the time and do a little research on one of the best inventions ever!!

The origin of the high heel goes back many centuries in history. The first precursors of stiletto heels were discovered in a tomb of Tebas in Old Egypt, and date from 1000 BC. These heels possibly provided a high social status to those who wore them.

In 3500 B.C., heels were wore as a ceremonial accessory for Egyptian butchers who wore them to walk above the blood of slaughtered animals is now what world-class designer Christian Louboutin describes as A mirror of what you want, what you are, or what you’re missing”.

The formal invention of high heels as fashion did not occur as a result of an off-the-charts-beautiful trendsetter trying to be different.  Instead, an insecure fourteen-year-old with an impending marriage to the Duke of Orleans (who would later become the King of France, Henry II) had a pair of two-inch heels made in a desperate attempt to shine before the‘splendid' French Court, and measure up to her fiancé’s notably taller, more beautiful mistress.  Just shy of five feet tall, Catherine de Medici (1519-1589)replaced her clunky wooden soles with heels that were meticulously designed by a brilliant Florentine Artisan and handcrafted by her personal Cobbler.  When people noticed her newly attained towering physique and alluring sway when she walked, the trend spread like wildfire across the entire French nation.  As a result, Catherine de Medici is now considered the mother of the modern high heel.

High heels soon became a symbol of wealth and authority and before long; men were wearing them as often as women.  Preceding rulers such as Mary Tudor, or “Bloody Mary”, and King Louis XIV were famous for their obsession with the style; King Louis XIV was said to wear heels as high at five inches tall.  In addition, he declared across the nation that only royalty could wear heels with soles colored red, and all people were banned from wearing heels taller than his own.  In this instance, King LouisXIV became an advocate for using fashion as a symbol of greatness.  It became a means to communicate class in society.

In the New World, however, the trend was not so popular among the recently colonized Puritans.  In fact, the Massachusetts Colony even passed a law that banned women from wearing high heels to seduce a man or they would be tried as a witch.  Around the 1790’s, during the time of the French Revolution, European views about high heels began to change as well.  Napoleon saw high heels as a cultural barrier that discouraged equality, and as a result banished them across the nations.  It wasn’t for another seventy years that heels became high fashion in Europe once again.  This came as a result of a new invention—the sewing machine, which allowed for greater variety and faster production of shoes.  Still, the Puritans remained steadfast against what they deemed to be a ‘sexually aggressive gait’, compared to a ‘poisoned hook’ to catch a naive male.  In 1888 America opened up their first heel factory and began what would escalate into a revolution of shoe-crazed women in demand for rapid production of the French-imitated high heel.

Wow, who would have ever thought...

I found a couple of pictures of the first heels every invented and let me just say, I'm so happy that the times have changed...

Interview with Ms. Sy from Stilettos Swap

I had the pleasure of interviewing Ms. Sy of Stiletto Swap. For those of you who may not be aware of who she is, she is a talented, young woman with a strong passion for shoes. Not only can she rock the hell out of a pair of stilettos, she can embellish them as well with a touch of her own creative style.  Here are a few questions that Ms. Sy was gracious enough to answer for me...

1. At what age did your passion for shoes first begin?

My passion for shoes began around the age of 6-7. My father would take me shopping for shoes. He has an addiction then and to this day for shoes. He would take me to purchase school shoes and would buy me patent leather loafers, at that time if you had patent leather shoes you really had it going on :)

2. Who's your favorite shoe designer?

This is a hard one. Hmmm, there are 3, Alexander McQueen because of his abstract creativity, Christian Louboutin for constantly being diverse yet fashionable and
Jeffrey Campbell for always thinking outside of the box with his designs.

3. If you could collaborate with any other designer who would it be and why?
I would definitely love to work with Christian Louboutin. Not because of his popularity amongst celebrity and women in general, but truthfully because I love the way he invasions his designs. I love that he mixes colors, patterns, fabrics and tries anything new and eye catching and I think he may love some of the ideas I have in mind for designs.

4. How long have you been designing shoes?
I've been designing / embellishing for 2.5 years

5. What advice would you give a woman looking for the perfect shoe?
Find what type of shoe is right for you. Which means... Shoes are all cut differently. They're made differently by each company, take time to try on shoes, test out different brands and different styles. You'll learn what styles fit your feet comfortably. Try different heel heights, try shoes with and without platforms, chunky heels, stiletto's, closed toe, pointy toe, peep toes. Experiment with shoes, even if that means hanging around in shoes departments trying on shoes in front of a mirror, find what fits you and your comfort.

6. Where do you shop for your shoes?
I shop all over. Online, in department stores, discount stores. Anywhere that sells shoes.

7. If you could get one celebrity to rock one of your shoe designs, who you it be and why?
Goodness!!! Never thought of having to pick only 1. Hmm, Sheesh... Ummm, I would probably have to go with... Lala. I think she's awesome, definitely can see her stepping outside the box and wearing my designs comfortably and fiercely. However, my other choice is Lady Gaga as well as Beyonce.

8. I personally love heels because I feel like they bring my sexiness out even more. Why do you were heels?
I wear heels because I believe it's my gift as a woman. They make me feel like a goddess and highlight my dominance. Whether it's true or not, they make me feel like I am the most stunning creature in the room. They give me a feeling of power and seduction. And, they're beautiful.

9. How much do you charge to design shoes?
My Simplest design starts at $40 and designs go up from there depending on designs and complexity of the design which may warrant expensive materials and/or take a lot longer for me to do.
10.What is your stiletto swap events about?
StilettoSwap Events provide the opportunity for women to swap or sell their brand new or gently worn shoes with other women. It's a wonderful girls day /night out to enjoy cocktails, food, fun all while mingling with other wonderful women. Women bring in their shoes and have the opportunity to try on other shoes they're interested in and either swap with the owner of the shoes they're interested in or the owner can sell the shoes to the interested party for a reasonable amount.

11.When is your next event?
1. I've put a hiatus on my Young Girls Embellishment Workshop til the weather breaks. My Young Girls Workshop provide a positive place for parents to bring their daughters ages 6-16 to work collaboratively on embellishing their children's shoes or sneakers. I wanted to provide a space where parents could bring their children and do something fun while allowing them to bond. My workshop is healed at the public library in Harlem one Saturday per month from 1-4p. When I start back up, probably in April, I will begin allowing young males to attend. All children need positive encouragement to keep them on the right path, not just young girls.

2. Because my following has grown and because of the positive feedback I received in September on my 3rd annual Swap, I have been asked not to have them annually and have them more. So I've decided to have a swap every 6 months and hopefully will have my next Swap in March-April (once the weather breaks).

3. I will be having upcoming fundraiser events as I am raising funds to travel with a wonderful non-profit Soles4Souls (www.soles4souls.org) to provide shoes to this in need in Tanzania, Africa. Please feel free to visit:
to check out my fundraising site.

12. How could you be reached if someone is interested in having you design their shoes?
